Celebrating our Boys!

I’m about a week behind on the blog but better late than never, right?  What a big weekend for our awesome boys. Briggs turned 8 and Liam turned 12---both big ages in our church.  Briggs is old enough to go to cub scouts now…how cute is he in his uniform? SmileHe gets to go to Cub Scouts at our Wednesday night activities now with Chuck & Sadie---AND Liam!  Now that  Liam is 12, he gets to go to to youth activities/Boy Scouts.  They are happy kiddos! (And Lydia and I get to have Mommy Night every Wednesday now!!!)

Back to the weekend….We had their BDay party at Dodgeball Party Zone…totally a BLAST! It was great because Papa Carl, Grandma Kathie & Grandpa Don, G & G Sessions and Dan, Celeste & Girls were all here….so much fun!!!
Not only was it their birthdays but also Briggs’ Baptism. In our church kids get to be baptized at 8---they’re old enough to know right from wrong, make their own choices, yet young enough to learn to follow Christ and have Him as a guiding force through their lives. Our baptism is done by immersion, just like the Savior in the Bible. We let Briggs make his own decision in this….he wasn’t sure for a long time but in the end decided that he wanted to follow Christ…what a happy day. Many special friends and family were there to share in his special moment. Here’s a more detailed explanation of baptism in our church:

So…that weekend was his baptism and since we had all our family here, we also did Liam’s ordination as a Deacon. That’s also a pretty big deal!!! I want to say that it’s similar to a Bar Mitzvah, but it really isn’t other than it’s something special that happens for young men in our church. Another “mormon” explanation here… Smile In our church young men have a special responsibility in the Priesthood when they turn 12. Here’s a link that explains what a Deacon is.

Liam has been so excited to turn 12…being ordained to be a Deacon has been one of the reasons.
It was a special weekend for 2 very special boys!!! So glad to have shared it with everyone that means so much to us. Loves to you all!

I'm sooo happy for you! That brings tears to my eyes! To watch your children be baptized is a beautiful thing and to see them receive the priesthood is amazing! I watch Josh as he blesses and passes the sacrament and it makes me think of the Stripling Warriors. Our boys can be every bit as strong and great as those Warriors were long ago. What a neat day for all of you!
